Buildings and crazy hidden fun stuff on the way!

I’ve refactored to a point where it should be straightforward to add more buildings without the fear that things will get messy further down the line, so since more building types are the most valuable thing I can add in right now, that’s what I’m doing. I’m going to use the excellent set of free models by Tucho for the time being, since they are pretty high quality and more or less fit in with the overall appearance of the game, but eventually I’d like to get some nice custom stuff done by either my good friend Mike (forgot your website, sorry Mike!) or Josh Larson, who offered his help some time ago (hope you haven’t forgotten, Josh ;) ). The models are all exported into Ogre format and ready to use, so expect to see some pictures of interesting new things soon!

Also, I completely forgot to mention the fun side of all this refactoring – it should now be really easy to add in all sorts of gimmicky and not-so gimmicky features since the code is a lot more modular now. It shouldn’t be too hard to get multiplayer going (uh-oh, islands crashing into each other!), for example. I really need an issue tracker set up so I can sort all these crazy ideas I have by ‘business value’.

    Heya

If you’re stuck for an issue tracker, you’re welcome to make use of Trac on my Linux box. Your user account is still open, so I can set you up an SVN repository and related Trac environment if you would like.

How’re you doing these days? Congrats on the job; when do you start?

Wow, with good quality 3D models available free online you probably won’t need my highly rusty modelling skills… let me know if you want any help with the fun part* though!

    * The game design – how buildings interact with one another etc.

Hurry up – you’ve only got a few days left before all your waking hours will be dedicated to making games for Bill Gates’ private use and you’re arse will be branded with the Microsoft logo. Then, alas, you will never finish the game and we will all be left hungry.

    How’s it going knob-eyes?

Alastair: I think I may well take you up on that offer, though by the time I’m moved in and have Internet access I’ll likely have a server of my own, so it’s probably not worth it I suppose :( I’m doing just fine, I’ve had a few days of work and it seems to be going very well, lots of very friendly people and a great atmosphere! How are you doing, aside from all this woman trouble (which you’ll get over – trust me)?

Mike: Hah, fair enough! Well, the fun part will be coming along in not too long; once I’ve done the prototype that includes a little gameplay I’ll release it, and you can (and will) give me plenty of feedback. Don’t worry, it won’t be long now… I’d ask about jobs and things, but I believe I’m already waiting for an email from you…

Tit-face: The branding is well worth it – I get lots of free games, tat and fruit, get to play table tennis and pool on my lunch break, and my current task is “just do what you want!”. Well worth it if you ask me ;) I’d ask you about your life too, but I don’t care because you’re an idiot and you smell. Aww go on then, how’s things going?

You know, perhaps these personal discussions should go in emails or through facebook (yuck), I don’t want my poor comments system to be misused like this…
